Bimbo Akintola: Redefining Womanhood at 55 Without Marriage or Children

Bimbo Akintola’s journey as a single woman at 55 ,without children , is a powerful African story of grace, purpose, and quiet defiance.

By choosing to live life on her own terms, she continues to challenge the deeply rooted belief that a woman’s worth lies solely in marriage or motherhood.

In truth, fulfillment wears many faces. For some women, it’s found in mentoring others, giving back to the world, and becoming a beacon of hope to those in pain.

Bimbo’s story carries another layer of depth ,the quiet heartbreak of losing her heartthrob. That kind of grief runs deeper than words can ever capture.

In a candid interview on the Nollywood Hardcore Podcast with Emma Labista, veteran Nigerian actress Bimbo Akintola shared a rare glimpse into her personal life, offering a heartfelt perspective on love, loss, and the societal pressures women face.

With vulnerability and grace, she revealed that she believes her soulmate passed away.

“I don’t talk about it much, but he died,” she said softly. “It took me a long time to find him.”

That loss, she explained, shaped her views on marriage. Despite societal expectations, Bimbo has refused to settle just for the sake of wearing a ring.

“I feel I’m too old to manage red flags just to make the world happy. No, I won’t marry for anybody. I’m always truthful to myself because at the end of the day, I am answerable to God.”

She went on to express that while she still believes in marriage, it has to be with someone she truly sees a future with.

“I’ve dated men, but I didn’t see forever with them. But if I meet someone and I see forever, even if I’m 82,I will marry. But if I don’t see that, I won’t.”

Her message was clear: marriage is not a societal obligation,it’s a deeply personal choice.

“Do you know how difficult marriage is? It’s even more hurtful if you do it with someone you’re not in love with.”

Amid personal loss and public scrutiny, Voice Your Stories team celebrates Bimbo Akintola for her courage, strength, and unwavering spirit. She is a reminder that living fully, even outside society’s script, is still a life of meaning and legacy.
