Joseph Robinette Biden Jr. also known as Joe Biden was born on November 20, 1942, to the family of Joseph Biden Sr. and Catherine Finnegan Jean Biden. Biden grew up to pursue his career in law but in 1972, he switched into politics to embark on a selfless mission for his country.
He was later elected as a senator although he was quite young to assume such an office at the age of 29. What turned out to be a delectation fairy-tale victory had a sudden crack and Biden was left to have a moment in the sun.
A call he received announced his induction into widowhood as a tractor-trailer broadsided his wife and three children. His two male children(Hunter and Beau) survived but his wife and his baby daughter were eaten up in the scene.
While struggling to understand the mess he had to deal with, he also had to ignite strength to be a shoulder to his sons. The nanny situation got stiffen up that he was actually sworn into the US Senate in the same hospital his son was recovering.
The thoughts of losing his beloved wife and adorable daughter made him think of taking his own life. In his words – “ For the first time in my life I understood how someone could consciously decide to commit suicide.” But during the devastating circumstance, he decided to fight to stay alive for his injured male children.
Biden was known to ride the train back home from his office every night for four hours so he could read his son’s bedtime stories and have breakfast with them every morning. At this point in his life, he had to split himself into two for both his sons and also serve the people of the United State.
“ You think about the countless thousands of other people who suffered so much more than we have, with so much less reason to go on, but they get up every morning, every day. They put one foot in front of the other and they keep going, this is the unbreakable spirit of the people of America. “
At age 30, life became fair when he met and married Jill Jacobs who he describes as being loyal, loving, and tough. The marriage was blessed with a daughter, Ashely.
Down the road, Joe Biden also ventures in attaining the highest position in leadership but ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic Presidential nomination in 1988 and again in 2008.
His two sons actually grew up under the tender care of their father and their stepmother, but tragedy struck again when one of his sons, Beau Biden lost his life to brain cancer at 46 while he was the vice-president of the United State.
Joe Biden has been through a lot and when asked how he dealt with such tragedy, he said “ Faith Sees Best in the Dark”. The loss of his son miraculously gave him a strong sense of purpose, he wanted his late son to be proud of him and this made him achieve more outlandish goals. Despite his severe losses in life, Joe learned never to give up.
According to Obama – “ To know Joe Biden is to know love without pretense, service without self -regard, and to live life fully.”
Biden’s resilient attitude fetched him the Presidential Medal of freedom with Distinction in 2017
On January 20, 2020, Joe Biden will be inaugurated as the 46th President of the United State of America. He never surrendered to the loopholes of tragedies in his life and today at the age of 77, he is blessed with a wife, two children, and seven grandchildren.
